Residue Management
Proper residue management is an important component of
responsible soil management. With the disappearance of the crow
rate and the following increase
in specialty crop production, came an increase in the exposure to the
elements of many of our best arable acres. Many recent popular specialty crops such as potatoes
and beans leave very little residue after harvest exposing the soil to
massive wind and water erosion.
LSRBCD wishes to combat this problem by introducing innovative
programs designed to protect soil horizons. This will include educational seminars and workshops
with professionals speaking about the costs and benefits of proper
trash management. Incentive programs and barrier strip
demonstrations.
