Grassed Runways

Often temporary watercourses through fields are broken up in favour of planting crops. Sometimes this can lead to massive amounts of soil erosion due to the loss of cover.  This has lead to the development of the Grassed Runway program.  This is where a watercourse through a field is smoothed out using heavy machinery to reverse any channel erosion problems.  Once smoothed the "runway" is then planted with a forage seed or similar vegetative cover. Sometimes this forage seed can then be used for haying purposes in order to recover costs and make an once unproductive area, productive again.
