Soil Conservation
Bufferstrip Program -
This is a strip of
managed vegetation adjacent to streams and wetlands, designed to
protect water quality from excess nutrients and chemicals and provide
animal habitat. The LSRBCD will funding $25/acre to a maximum of
40 acres.
Grassed Runway Program -
Small watercourses that periodically run across your field can
cause severe erosion, decrease crop yields, and lessen property value.
A grassed runway can correct these concerns as well as provide
valuable acres of hay to offset costs. LSRBCD will fund 80% to a
maximum of $3,000 per quarter section.
Gully Erosion
Control & Prevention - Millions of tons of valuable soil are lost every year in LSRBCD.
Protect your soil resources by preventing and slowing gully formation
on your property. LSRBCD will cover 80% of the costs towards
your gully repair project to a maximum of $3,000.
Salinity Seed Assistance
Program - Do you have areas of salinity on your property where
nothing seems to grow. We provide technical assistance and
funding for seeding salt tolerant plants. LSRBCD will fund up to
$25/acre with a 20 acre maximum.
Shelterbelt Program -
If you quality for PFRA trees, LSRBCD will install all field
shelterbelts free of charge. The LSRBCD will supply tree planting
equipment and a technician for the installation of your field
shelterbelt.
Water
Conservation
Abandoned Well Sealing
Program - Do you have
unused wells on your property? Aside from providing contaminants
rapid access to groundwater they can pose a safety risk. LSRBCD
will seal your well upon request. The landowner will be
responsible to pay $125/well sealed. LSRBCD will cover all other costs that are
only related to sealing the well; i.e. casing or cribbing remove from
well, sanitation supplies and Bentonite clay.
Constructed
Wetland Program - LSRBCD is
offering technical assistance and funding to producers interested in
controlling feedlot runoff and purifying runoff water by filtering it
through a constructed wetland. The manufactured wetland cells
removes many contaminates present in feedlot runoff. In the cell,
contaminates are filtered by vegetation and broken down by
micro-organisms. LSRBCD may fund 75% to a maximum which will be
determined on a case by case basis.
Shock Chlorination
- If your well water test has failed, we may be able to help.
LSRBCD will visit your well and assess it for potential contamination
sources. If you choose, LSRBCD will shock chlorinate your well
to kill any bacteria.
Water
Retention Program -
LSRBCD is currently
investigating the potential for a small dam network in the
Conservation District. Water held on your property can serve a
number of functions; recharging groundwater, water for irrigation or
livestock, provide wildlife habitat and reduce flooding downstream. LSRBCD
may fund
75% of the construction costs to a maximum that will be determined on
a case by case basis.
Pasture
Management
Alternative Watering
Systems Program -
Pasture watering setups funded by the LSRBCD
to aid in the protection of natural water sources. LSRBCD will
funding 80% to a maximum of $1,000 for this program.
Pasture Pipeline Plow
Program - This is a rental unit available with technical
support, used to install pasture watering systems between 18"-24" below the
ground, allowing producers more control of pasture use. For $150/day, LSRBCD will delivery and provide a technician for the installation of
your pasture watering system.
Riparian Fencing Program -
Proper management of your sensitive
streambank areas are essential not only for bank stability but
maximizing stream health and riparian functions. Fencing out
these sensitive areas from heavy livestock traffic can prevent
degradation. LSRBCD will fund 70% of fencing costs to a maximum
of $2,000 for natural watercourses.
Rotational Grazing
Program - LSRBCD will assist producers in the creation of a
rotational grazing system to improve pasture health and yield.
LSRBCD will cover 70% of interior fencing costs to a maximum of $500.
Public Education
and Urban Programming
Community Naturalization
Program - This
program offers assistance, funding and implementation support to urban
communities for the development
of natural resources within town limits. Projects can include,
but are not limited to, nature trail development, interpretive
signage, tree planting, riparian improvements, conservation set asides
and habitat improvements. Funding will be determined on a case
by case basis. Apply Early!
Community
Education Grants - LSRBCD will provide funding, technical
assistance and project implementation support to communities for the
development of conservation education resources. Projects can
include workshops, seminars, interpreters, speakers, literature or
publications related to sustainable land management practices,
equipment such as water quality testing kits or other related
educational materials. Funding will be determined on a case by
