In
the winter of 2004-2005 the Cypress River Chamber of Commerce
approached the La Salle Redboine Conservation District for assistance in
increasing the appeal of their 'Millennium Wayside Park', located on
the outskirts of Cypress River along Highway #2. In response, the La
Salle Redboine Conservation District developed a proposal for a
wetland discovery trail that guides users throughout the wetland and
upland habitats found within the park.
During the summer of 2005,
boardwalks and floating docks were built over the wetland, creating a
trail that is approximately 300 meters long. Interpretive signs about
the importance of wetlands on our landscapes, species found within the
marsh and the importance of watersheds were installed in Spring
of 2006. The Conservation District celebrated its completion
with a Grand Opening on June 22, 2006.
This
project was spearheaded by the La Salle Redboine Conservation District
with financial support from the Cypress River Chamber of Commerce, R.M.
of Victoria, Manitoba Recreational Trail Association and Shell
Environmental Fund. The interpretive signs were provided by Ducks
Unlimited Canada with Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation
responsible for donating nesting structures from migrating waterfowl.
