Abandoned Well Sealing
Sealing abandoned wells is a
common practice of the
Conservation Districts. CD's have a vested interest in
protecting groundwater quality and view abandoned wells as a possible
entry source for contaminants.
The process is to excavate the
well and remove old well casings and cribbing. The groundwater
is then shocked with chlorine to remove any potential bacterial
contaminants. Once completed the well is then filled with bentonite clay to prevent any further contamination.
